Lifeline is an ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) registered non-profit organisation that has been helping Australians in crisis since 1963. It primarily provides support to those experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts, but they also assist people with various mental health concerns.
As a part of fundraising, Lifeline also operates a network of 180 retail op shops and donation charity bins across Australia. Items donated are resold in their op shop at affordable prices, and all the profits from the operation are channelled back into the Lifeline organisation.
Lifeline donation bins are easy to spot – they are usually painted in navy blue and have the ‘Lifeline’ logo prominently displayed. You can usually find them near shopping centres, schools and almost always in front of a lifeline op shop.
The bins are a good option for donating smaller items like clothes, shoes, toys, books or anything that’s in good condition and would fit inside the bin. Larger items like furniture, crockery, kitchenware etc., can either be dropped off directly at one of their warehouses or picked up from your home free of charge.
For home collection, call 3632 1010 or 4228 0722.
Lifeline accepts donations of a wide range of items, including:
• Clothing, shoes and accessories.
• Toys
• Bric-a-brac like crockery, Wine racks, candelabras etc.
• Furniture
The clothing and accessories should be in a wearable condition without rips or stains. In general, Lifeline only accepts items that are in good working condition. If you think you can give the item to your friend or family, it’s probably good enough for Lifeline.
The donation bins are open 24/7, but the op-shops have different opening hours depending on the location. Usually, the op-shops are open from 10 AM – 4 PM Monday to Friday and 10 AM – 1 PM on Saturdays. The stores generally remain closed on Sundays and public holidays.
You can view the store timings as well as items accepted on the individual listing page (shared above).
Lifeline sells donated goods at their op shops at affordable prices and actually makes a profit out of it. All the proceeds from the sales go into funding their charity effort. So you can rest easy knowing that your donation is going to good use.
