Find Donation and Clothing Bins in Brisbane

Brisbane is Australia's third highest populated city and therefore has no shortage of people with things they no longer need. We can all relate to the feeling of finding clothes in the closet that we never wear anymore or constantly passing by furniture that just doesn’t work in our house. It may seem easiest to simply throw out these items to get rid of them as quickly as possible, but there’s actually a better option. Charity organisations are always looking for new donations that can, in turn, be used to help them fulfil their mission.

Why should you donate unwanted items?

Perhaps the most obvious reason to donate things that you no longer need is that other people can use them. Typically, donated items are sold at charity op shops for a much lower price than what they would cost brand new. This allows someone who otherwise couldn’t afford certain things to purchase them at a discounted price. And, of course, the money goes back to the charity organisation so they can use it to help even more people.

It’s also best not to send things to a landfill if they can be avoided. According to the UNSW Newsroom, the amount of waste in Australia continues to increase. Nearly 40% of waste goes to landfills. By donating, you’re not just helping other people, you’re also helping the environment.

Where can you donate unwanted items?

We have located 440 charity bins in Brisbane. That’s a lot of options! These bins can be found across the city in areas like Annerley, Nundah, Capalaba, Wynnum and Cleveland, among many others. Wherever you live, there’s sure to be a charity bin that’s close by and convenient.

The charities with the most donation bins in Brisbane are Vinnies, Salvos, Lifeline and SCR Group. Always make sure the items you’re donating are in good condition. Never donate items that are too big to fit inside the bin, or leave something outside of it. The NSW EPA says that illegal dumping like this can lead to a $7500 fine.

What should I donate?

Each organisation has its own donation requirements, which can be found by clicking on a specific bin’s location. However, almost anything is accepted. Some of the most universally approved items include clothing, books, toys, furniture and homewares. If you’re unsure about a specific item, you can always call your local op shop to ensure they take it before leaving it in a bin.

If you donate something the organisation doesn’t accept, they’re left to dispose of it, and it will likely end up in a landfill.

Whatever you donate, you can feel good knowing you’re making a difference. Dropping things you no longer want in a charity bin doesn’t just give you more space. It also allows those organisations to help people in need. There’s no better feeling than knowing you did something good for someone else.
